Bream Co-op

A second retail project for the Gentian Development group involved the conversion of an existing 300m2 garage and 100m2 local convenience store into a new larger retail unit for the Mid Counties Co-op with the smaller unit to be sub-let.

Purchased in May 2020, a fast track programme saw an extensive remodelling, with the works including stripping back previous extensions, repairing the structural defects, addressing tanking issues, bringing the building inline with current building regulation requirements (notably insulation levels), providing new parking as well as giving the building a new contemporary appearance.

The design focused on the existing 2 wings of the original building and giving them different characters through the use of contrasting finishes. A dark grey slate clad wing with the new entrance becomes the new Co-op convenience store and the off white render block contains the back of house spaces for the Co-op unit and a smaller retail unit to be sub-let. The lime green recess with the colour matched doors provides the delivery point for the scheme.

Practical completion was in April 2021 and the store opened in June that year, following a shop fit out by the Co-op.
